Best Entries for November-December 2011 as chosen by the admin staff.

The following have been placed in the Featured Gallery and are discussed briefly here. Following the reorganisation of the Group, we have been very heartened by the support shown by members by way of submissions and comments. We have also had several new members, some of whose work is seen below.

I am not going to pick a winner, but the first two entries were picked by each of the five admin who took part.

“Angel” by 3whiteroses 3whiteroses.deviantart.com/ Angel by 3whiteroses

“Red Red Hot” by dewanggapratama dewanggapratama.deviantart.com… :: Red Red Hot... :: by dewanggapratama

The Angel is a haunting IR portrait shot, while Angga's model illustrates the power of the more full spectrum approach.

The surreal nature of infra-red is always near the surface, particularly in these examples.

“Entente” by Phostructor phostructor.deviantart.com/… a “Frakenlens” - one built by Phostructor himself to add in peripheral blur to what would already be an enigmatic shot of the house, its  angled roofs mirrored and framed by the slanting branches. Entente by Phostructor

The incredible panorama of Sacre Coeur in Paris “Rouge Coeur” by Bamboomix bamboomix.deviantart.com/ … defies imagination with the spatial distortion of the street and the framing of the the church by infra-red lightened trees adding to the surreal fairy-land feel. Rouge Coeur by bamboomix

The surreal with figure is well illustrated by Lugal's lugal.deviantart.com/ … of the Land”  An exposure time of about ½ second allows the chiffon robe to flow in the breeze, enhancing the mystical look of the model.

Mature Content

Ghosts of the Land by Lugal

Trees and plants are favourites for infra-red work, with the leaves providing often stark white on dark boughs against black or blue skies. Images can be presented as high key adding to visual impact. “The white wallpaper 2560” by myINQI myinqi.deviantart.com/ (a Daily Deviation) illustrates the point, The white wallpaper 2560 by myINQI

“The Blue Season” by x-horizon x-horizon.deviantart.com/ … a slightly enigmatic example of dark and light in trees. :thumb26989762:

The lone standing tree of “Lost in My Dreams” by IngoEs ingoes.deviantart.com/ Lost In My Dreams by IngoSchobert is hard to beat for elegant simplicity.

Lucyfer77's lucyfer77.deviantart.com/ … sunrise” infrared sunrise by Konczey-Zsolt brings in a popular alternative colour palette of dark yellows and browns.

The image “lilio” lilio by Phostructor by Phostructor phostructor.deviantart.com/ shows the power of a single region of interest standing proud of a beautifully restful waterscape.

Landscapes, like trees, lend themselves to infra-red photography, coming in monochrome, blues and white, and false colours:

“Castle of Dreams” Castles of Dreams - VI.b by DimensionSeven by DimensionSeven dimensionseven.deviantart.com/ ;

“Toba Lake”   Toba Lake from Pangururan view by hirza by hirza hirza.deviantart.com/ ;

“Winter Creek Winter Creek by Lugal by Lugal lugal.deviantart.com/ ; and

“Dust to Dust” Dust to Dust by NickSpiker by spigget spigget.deviantart.com/

illustrate these aspects. Note also that spigget's shot is a full spectrum image of UV, visible and IR.

The Infrared-Club (Extra-Visible Imaging) also includes wider aspects than pure infrared. The neat image by Astroandre astroandre.deviantart.com/ “IR theatre”   IR theatre by Astroandre is a good example of channel manipulation where an IR and visible image was taken and the red channel of the visible image replaced by the IR image. The green/brown vegetation becomes reddish and more differentiated than in the original visible shot.

Finally, some other deligthtful work:

“the duet” the duet by hclay by hclay hclay.deviantart.com/ ;

“Three Birches infrared” Three Birches infrared by MichiLauke a mini-planet by MichiLauke michilauke.deviantart.com/ ;

“Joshua Tree Panorama” :thumb264354628: by jcded jcded.deviantart.com/ ;

“Lost and Found II” Lost and Found II by DavidCraigEllis a haunting image by dingodave dingodave.deviantart.com/ ; and

“Fischunkelalm View Lake Obersee” :thumb275894181: an absolutely stunning image by mIkeschwaRz mikeschwarz.deviantart.com/

Happy New Year
